What a fun way to brain storm ideas, look at what inspires you, have something to refer to when you’re stuck!

using paint palettes

This has to be my favourite way to use a sketchbook. Here I have used left over palettes to create small paintings in my sketchbook. I use a acrylic tear off palette and once I have finished with it I keep it in a box and I will then pull it out and use it as collage pieces. This is such a great way to experiment with colour and composition. I like it because its paint and colours I am familiar with. It is like creating mini paintings that spur on more ideas for bigger paintings.

Most importantly remember that sketchbooks are for ideas, notes and play. They are not meant to be perfect and full of finished pieces and great ideas. Be prepared to let loose, have fun and just enjoy yourself! That’s where the creative magic comes from.
